King Crimson, Tap Dancing and Sparkly Shoes

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

So, I’m like 10 years (or so) late on this, but what the fuck? I saw Buffalo ‘66 for the first time a few days ago and pretty much Christina Ricci does a tap dance to King Crimson. Like, what? I thought I listened to progressive rock? How could I not know of such genius? I think I’m going to go start a progressive rock dance troupe, but like, its going to be a mix between this and that laser show they used to have at the Griffith Observatory that was set to Pink Floyd and ELP, only my shows are going to have a fog machine and they are only going to be set to King Crimson and I’m not paying Robert Fripp a thing for the use of his music even though its awesome.

Halcyon-Icon N. 2- Black Widow’s “Come To The Sabbat”

“Discard your clothes and come on foot, through streams and fields and moonlit moors.”

Astaroth is a demon-goddess who was revered throughout Ye Olde Ancient Days from Babylon to Egypt. She represents fertility, love, and war, and is said to be the granddaughter of Beelzebub! Her role as a worshiped deity was resuscitated in the early 70’s by Black Widow, who invoked her presence in their lyrics and decadently occult-influenced live shows. A British news writer said that their music and stage show was “not an example of Satanism, but more an example of Satanic bad taste.” Despite being dismissed by the press of the era, Black Widow’s music coveys a fantastic power that acts as a mode of escapism relevant in these modern times. I recently made an escape myself, fleeing the city to the woods of a New England village. Conjuring the sentiment of Black Widow’s “Come To The Sabbat” seemed a necessary thing to do…

Kimme contemplating leather and doom as Pentagram's "Lazy Lady"

“I thought it was fine ’bout the very first time. You’re quite a mystical chick.”

“Lazy Lady” by Pentagram comes on like a mob of unruly bikers, reeking of smoke, kicking gravel and breaking bottles in the street;  but they just may the types to secretly cry beer-tears when a sentimental song comes up on the jukebox.  I dedicate my first installment of “Halcyon-Icon” to choker-wearing frontman Bobby Liebling, a mustachioed paradox of a dude.
I have a feeling he would appreciate the levels of metal, leather, and legs in these photos, not to mention the badass 70’s Yamaha that’s involved.  I’m wearing an organza shirt my Grandmother wore on her 1940’s Honeymoon, a leather jacket with lacing detail designed by me, and black velvet shorts designed by my partner-in-crime, Jessica Hind.  I also have such a massive amount of jewelry piled on that it’s encroaching on “artillery” territory, but I believe that Lazy Lady would have done the same!
